Lot 2968
Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 17 mm, 3.39 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Cyzicus. Irregular mint, after 324. CONSTANTINVS [IVN NOB C] Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to left. Rev. PROVIDEN-[T]IAE CAESS / SMKB Camp gate with no doors and two turrets; above, star. Cf. RIC 26 (for prototype). Somewhat smoothed and with traces of corrosion, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The style of this coin is clearly unofficial, indicating that it is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation, most likely copying RIC Cyzicus 26. All lettering is uneven and the obverse legend is retrograde.
